What happens to the text you select

Selecting text or hovering over a paragraph sends nothing. A request starts when you press the beforeword button beside a passage or the analysis button in the panel.

One selected passage

The request contains the selected text and the interface language. It does not add the whole page, your reading history or the page URL. Names, URLs and other details already present in the passage remain part of the text sent.

The beforeword service sends the passage to an OpenAI model for analysis. The response is a reading proposed by the model. It does not establish the events, states, intentions or origin described in the writing.

What stays in your browser

The site remembers your theme preference and whether paragraph suggestions are enabled. You can turn suggestions off in the analysis panel; ordinary text selection stays available. It also keeps a random browser identifier and the last returned balance for the six introductory analyses. These persist between visits.

A temporary access token is held in the current tab session and expires within 24 hours. The reader component does not save selected passages or reports to a history or persistent browser storage. Closing the panel or pressing Stop ends the wait and signals cancellation. Processing already completed on the server may still count.

What the service records

The service counts completed analyses and tracks access expiry and request limits. Its database contains hashed identifiers and a pseudonymous network identifier used for rate limiting. Several visitors can share a network address.

The service code does not write selected text or reports to its database or logs. Hosting logs and the model provider’s data handling are separate. This description does not claim that no party involved in transmission retains any data.

Six introductory analyses

The allowance belongs to a browser identifier. Each successfully completed analysis uses one. Errors and model refusals do not use this allowance. An analysis does not count if the server receives cancellation before completion. Separate rate limits may still apply.

If the connection is lost after the server completes an analysis, it may count even if its response never appears in the panel. Clearing site data removes the local identifier; it does not request deletion of server records.
